Healthy Hair Tips + Why Your Hormones Matter by FlourishI hesitated writing this post, because I feel like I am not glamorous enough and for sure don’t have the perfect luscious locks to be writing a post about hair.

But I can tell you this, in just a few short months my hair has tripled in thickness, feels soft like velvet and the bald spot in the middle of my hair part has started to diminish.

If you have been following some of my Instagram stories, you will have noticed I have talked a bit about changing up my hair routine and working on my hormones, and let me tell you it is a work in progress, but the progress is real!!!

The other day I got a few of the sweetest comments saying, “Caroline, I have followed you for a while now and your hair has dramatically improved? What products are you using?”

Healthy Hair Tips by Colorful EatsHealthy Hair Tips by Colorful EatsHonestly…the change really hasn’t been the products I have been using, although I am sharing that below, but the magic lies in putting systems in place in my life to live from a place of rest, not stress.

I have been making big changes in my life to eliminate the stress, make my health a priority, say no and live from a place of rest…and my hair has been the biggest physical reward from that all!

So if you are the every day girl just like me, jeans and a white tee shirt most often but not afraid to get glammed up, this post is for you!  If you are the girl that is possibly struggling with hair loss or hair that feels like straw or hormonal acne that just never seems to go away, this post is for you!

Our hormones, especially as females, are greatly connected to our hair and skin health.  Chronic stress and adrenal fatigue greatly weakens our hair health and can result in hair loss, often months delayed. (Insert girl raising her hand emoji right here)

Excess estrogen in the body, due to decreased liver detox, toxins in our hair and beauty products and consuming conventionally raised hormone pumped animal protein can put our body in to a state of estrogen dominance.  This can result in hair loss, change in hair texture and hormonal acne!

Healthy Hair Tips by Colorful EatsHealthy Hair Tips by Colorful EatsThe point is, you can use the best haircare products in the world, but if you do not start eliminating the stress and taking care of yourself, your hair will never truly shine!

I can honestly say that after a few months of working on my hormones, adrenal fatigue and putting systems in place to prioritize my life and business, my hair has thickened and feels like velvet!!

Stress, however small, is the enemy.  The answer isn’t in another round of coffee or more hair products, the answer is in slowing down, re-focusing and designing a life you love living!

My Favorite Healthy Hair Tips and Non-Toxic Products

Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides

Collagen is an absolute must for all things healthy hair, skin and joints.  I have seen amazing and quick results to my hair health (particularly the thickness) with consistently consuming collagen each day.  Collagen is an amino acid that gives skin it’s elasticity and hair it’s strength.  Due to our stress in this modern world, I believe it is essential to consume collagen daily!

I add a teaspoon or two to my morning cup of coffee and then again in the afternoon when I make tea.  It dissolves in hot or cold beverages and doesn’t taste.

Shop Collagen Peptides, Collagen Beauty Greens or Vanilla Coconut Collagen Peptides.

Beautycounter Daily Shampoo

Introducing this shampoo into my life was a game changer!!!  I can HIGHLY recommend it and only wish I had tried it sooner.  Using this shampoo has allowed me to go about 4 days without shampooing and it provides texture to my roots and silky smooth feeling to my locks.  Your hair will feel like velvet and this shampoo has for sure helped with frizz control…hello summer and humidity!

A little goes a long way, so I recommend starting with a small amount and adding more as needed.  My husband even uses this daily!

Shop Beautycounter Daily Shampoo >

Beautycounter Daily Conditioner

I absolutely love the smell and the silky smooth texture.  This conditioner truly repairs and nourishes your hair, especially split ends, but does not leave your hair feeling greasy after a day or two!

Shop Beautycounter Daily Conditioner >

Milk Anti-Frizz Treatment

I have searched high and low for a good anti-frizz treatment that has clean ingredients but also doesn’t make your hair greasy. This option is very lightweight and truly works. Apply a few pumps and work through wet hair before you dry, or apply a pump to dry ends each morning.

Shop Milk Anti-Frizz Treatment >

Crowning Glory Hair Oil

This specifically helps hair re-growth at the scalp area. You can use it as an overnight mask, it truly doesn’t make your hair greasy, before washing. Or apply a few drops to your ends! It smells amazing!

Shop Nessa Crowning Glory Hair Oil >

Enrich Hair Mask

I started using this hair mask 1-2 times per week and  noticed a HUGE difference in the texture, softness, shine and it even has helped restore my split ends (which have always been a problem for me). Use after you shampoo and let it soak for a few minutes while you enjoy some peace in the shower.

Shop Enrich Hair Mask >

Primally Pure Dry Shampoo

Never ever did I think I would become a fan of dry shampoo…I just didn’t understand the concept, probably because I love showering! But I have found that being able to extend the days that I need to wash my hair has done amazing things for its texture.

And I will admit that originally I didn’t really like this dry shampoo, but I discovered I wasn’t using enough or really working the shampoo into my scalp.  I like to rub it in with my finger tips at the roots, wait a minute or two and then fluffy it up with a blow-dryer!

Primally Pure’s Dry Shampoo comes in powder rather than an aerosol type of dry shampoo.  Aerosol or spray dry shampoos sadly contain butane gas (linked to organ toxicity) and free of volatile compounds that can be flammable and detrimental to the environment.

Shop Primally Pure Dry Shampoo >

Bamboo Hair Brush

Plastic or wire brushes are very harsh not only to your scalp and roots but also can greatly contribute to split ends.  Switching to a more natural, bamboo hair brush with thicker rounded edges not only feels great but naturally protects your hair and scalp.
