When I first started experiencing my healthy issues and eventually changed my diet, removing all grains and most starches, “bunless” burgers quickly became my favorite food. To me, the foods that taste the best are foods instantly satisfies not only our need for nourishment but also our desires for delicious, flavorful comfort food, and that for me I often a grilled burger.
My husband and I love to cook together and on weekends when he is not out to sea, we are usually creating something delicious on the smoker or BBQ. One of our favorites is stuffed hamburgers, so I wanted to share this family favorite from our kitchen to yours! Its quite simple to make, but the addition of a few ingredients can transform your everyday hamburger into something colorful, gourmet, oh and healthy! So light up your grill, pour your favorite drink over ice, slice up some veggies or creamy cheeses, and enjoy the process of cooking together!
Gruyere Stuffed Burgers
A cheesy stuffed, grass-fed burger topped with buttery mushrooms and a mustard horseradish sauce. Serve on a bed of arugula for a delicious grain-free dinner for all to enjoy.
Ingredients
makes 3 burgers
- 1 lb ground beef, preferably grass-fed
- 1/2 tsp Celtic sea salt
- 1/4 tsp fresh cracked black pepper
- 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
- 3 slices gruyere cheese
- 6 mushrooms
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp mustard
- 1 tbsp fresh horseradish sauce
{Serve with plated with fresh arugula, sweet potato chips & roasted vegetables}
Directions
- Separate your beef into 6 equal sections
- Using a burger press, press 1 part of beef into press and flatten. Add a slice of cheese into the center. Then add the next layer of beef and flatten. Remove from burger press and use your fingers to seal up the edges. Repeat with remaining beef.
- Mix together salt, pepper and paprika to create a burger rub. Sprinkle generously on both sides of burgers.
- Heat your grill to medium-high.
- Grill burgers 4-5 minutes per side (for medium), depending on the thickness or until cooked to desired preference.
- While your burgers are grilling, slice mushrooms. Heat a skillet to medium heat and sauté mushrooms in butter until soft, about 5 minutes.
- Prepare mustard and horseradish sauce by string together in a small bowl.
- Serve burgers on a bed of arugula, topped with mushrooms and mustard sauce. Plate with sweet potato chips and your favorite roasted or grilled vegetables.
I really like this. Especially the idea to stuff the cheese into the middle of the patties. I like to add garlic and onion when making patties too. 🙂
