{Day 5 of my Everyday Grain Free Eats challenge—cheers to you, the weekend and healthy soda!}

When I first tasted Live Soda a few months back, I couldn’t believe it—it actually tastes like real root beer! I haven’t had a sip of soda in over 4 years so it was the greatest treat ever! I rushed back to the store the next day and bought everything they had in stock and was so giddy to share it with my husband.  Now he, being from Texas, is a huge Dr. Pepper fan and voluntarily gave up drinking soda when he first met me.  So needless to say he was so excited to finally have soda once again too!

I have introduced this kombucha soda to so many friends and family and everyone always loves it!  Most Target stores carry live soda as well as many local health food stores, so keep a look out for this great brand.  Now Live Soda does contain cane sugar, however sugar is necessary to make kombucha due to the fermentation process, so don’t be alarmed as most of the sugar is used up in the process.

Live Soda is a great new American company out of Austin, Texas.  They make their sodas from 99% raw kombucha which is a sparkling, fermented probiotic tea that has countless health benefits!  So you can drink your soda and get great nutrients like enzymes, antioxidant and electrolytes at the same time.  I can’t say enough great things about Live Soda except that you should probably try some for yourself!

Cheers to You—Floats & Friends!

Growing up, we never drank soda, however on Friday nights my mom would let us make root beer floats—using organic root beer of course!  Or when we would go to my grandparents, my grandpa would always make my sister and I root beer floats after lunch.  He knew I looked forward to root beer floats so much that he always kept his refrigerator stocked with root beer! I have so many fun memories of making floats.

The other weekend we were going over to a friends house for a relaxing Sunday afternoon of football and food and I thought root beer floats were needed! Football just isn’t football without snacks and drinks.  So we grilled up some steaks from US Wellness Meats and made these Paleo friendly root beer floats!  You can make these using any of the soda flavors such as root beer, Dr Pepper or Cola, but we liked the classic root beer the best.  I make a few recommendations at the bottom of my favorite dairy free & low glycemic ice cream brands as well as a great traditional vanilla ice cream. I hope you enjoy this fun creation for simple and healthy entertaining!

Cheers to you!

Paleo Friendly Kombucha Root Beer Floats

serves 8

Ingredients

  • 4 bottles Live Soda Kombucha (I recommend using rootbeer flavor)
  • 1 pint vanilla ice cream (dairy free or regular)

Directions

  • Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream to each glass.  Pour half a bottle of kombucha into each glass, pouring slowly allowing the foam to settle.
  • Serve with a straw or spoon and enjoy!

Ice Cream Recommendations

  • Locally made ice cream: Artisan ice cream brands and shops are popping up everywhere! Usually they are made with high quality ingredients and I love supporting local brands. Many grocery stores will feature local brands or you can even check your farmer’s market!
  • Coconut Bliss Ice Cream: Made with coconut milk and low glycemic, this is a great brand when you don’t have time for homemade ice cream.  They do sweeten with agave, which I personally don’t like, however it is a good option when you just need some ice cream. It is creamy and scoops fabulously!
  • Coconut Secret Raw Coconut Cream: I love this dairy free ice cream sweetened with coconut nectar. It is one of the only brands out there that I can find that doesn’t use cane sugar or agave so it is a favorite in my mind! It can get a little icy after a while that is the only downside.
  • Jenni’s Splendid Ice Creams: If you can tolerate dairy and sugar or for a special treat, Jenni’s ice cream is made with milk from grass-fed cows and uses no artificial ingredients!
