I have to admit, the act of putting on a bit of makeup brings me to life! It’s truly more about how I show up for myself than others 💪🏽

Makeup that benefits YOUR skin. Let’s talk about it!

Foundation is one of my top recommendations for first swaps because many of us wear it most days for hours! Foundation can also contain some of the worst offenders when it comes to your health and hormones. 

Ingredients to avoid or question the source…

• Fragrance or ‘parfum’ // trade secrets and endocrine disruptors
• Mineral Oil, Paraffin or Petrolatum // a known carcinogen
• Triclosan // an antibacterial that can impact hormone + thyroid function
• Phthalates + Parabens // known endocrine disruptors and plastics
• Mica // gives makeup that shimmer and is not necessarily unsafe but often comes from unethical working conditions (more on transparency with mica)
• Heavy metals // lead, aluminum, cadmium and more which are known carcinogens
• PEGs (polyethylene glycol) // a class of compounds the serves as a penetration enhancer, these can cause skin irritation and be contaminated with other concerning ingredients like 1,4-dioxane, a known carcinogen

What to look for in clean foundation…

Heavy metal free pigments: The more pigments (aka the darker or more saturated in color the foundation), the more exposure to heavy metals required, which comes at a cost to health and safety! Simply put, the darker the foundation the harder it is to make safe!

Getting those vibrant, rich pigments in foundation or powders is one of the biggest challenges in creating clean makeup!

Lasting coverage: You want safe but also effective glamor, I get it! Skin Twin’s hydrophobic pigments means when you sweat or glisten, your makeup won’t drip off your face. Living in a hot + humid area I can attest to this!

Fragrance free: This is simply an umbrella term or trade secret for hundreds or thousands of chemicals that do not have to be disclosed to the consumer. Keep an eye out for phthalates too as sometimes fragrance free is replaced with phthalates (sneaky).

Skin multitasker—makeup with skincare benefits: Hyaluronic acid, a popular anti-aging ingredient, visibly plumps and smooths skin to minimize the appearance of fine lines. It also provides the perfect amount of hydration needed, in a non greasy way!

My Clean Foundation Recommendation

Skin Twin Foundation takes the cake! I love it because it provides complete coverage and feels + looks glamorous all day. It gives that barely there feel too, you won’t even notice you have makeup on!

This gives you full coverage all day long without feeling heavy at all!! Better Blender is a great way to quickly blend in your makeup without getting your hands dirty. I never used a blender until this and now I won’t go back! It evenly blends in your makeup while being super gentle on your skin.
